Acoustica began in 2005. It was thought up by Leichhardt Councilor Damian Cobley-Finch.
Damian wanted to create an urban folk and Acoustic music event because there is simply nothing like in Sydney; added to the fact that Balmain has the largest per capita group of creative residents than any other part of this city, made it the perfect place to begin this new music tradition
The first event proved the theory. What a success an estimated 7,000 people came and picnicked or savoured some of the wonderful food that was on offer on still balmy night under a full moon.
The Committee wants to grow the event each to extend the number of days the event runs and expand the artists that visit the event.
In 2006 we have expanded Acoustica over three days with a special performance of the talented and brilliant George Washingmachine on Friday 21 April at Balmain’s Unity Hall Hotel and a first ever Australian concert by Allessandra Belloni the world’s greatest female percussionist at Balmain Town Hall on Saturday 22 April.
In 2007 at Unity Hall we feature the extraordinary talents of Don Hopkins with his New Orleans style piano and vocals
So Acoustica is history in the making.
